SUNeVision Celebrates Hong Kong’s Newest World Class Data Centre MEGA Plus In Full Service with “MEGA Plus Xperience” Ceremony

SUNeVision Holdings Limited (“SUNeVision”, Stock Code: 8008:HK), a premium carrier neutral data centre service provider in Hong Kong, today hosted a celebration ceremony for MEGA Plus, its latest high-tier next generation data centre, which now operates in full service. Around 100 guests and business partners gathered at the “MEGA Plus Xperience” Ceremony to celebrate the birth of Hong Kong’s newest next generation data centre, and toured the premises to experience the data centre’s innovative and eco-friendly features.

The first high-tier data centre in Tseung Kwan O

MEGA Plus is the first and only purpose-built facility on land in Tseung Kwan O designated for data centre use by the Hong Kong government. It represents SUNeVision’s support to Hong Kong government’s Digital 21 Strategy in developing Hong Kong into a data technology hub in Asia Pacific. It boasts a 474,000 square feet gross data centre space, and is designed to be a high quality facility.

Strengthened MEGA Connect network

MEGA Plus further enhances the connectivity advantage of the MEGA Connect service together with MEGA-i and MEGA Two to form a “virtual data centre” network called MEGA Campus, which is connected with high-resilience, high-performance dedicated fibres. It offers customers the best choice for long term data centre investment with a high degree of flexibility, scalability and reliability. SUNeVision’s strong MEGA Connect capabilities are able to fulfil the future demands of many of the world’s largest cloud service providers, hyper-scale internet companies, over-the-top (OTT) players and enterprise customers in setting up their network equipment and cloud infrastructure at the premises.

High IT load capacity, modular and flexible design

MEGA Plus is capable of providing high IT load capacity, supporting more than 5,000 racks to fulfil the market demands. Its modular and flexible design meets the varied and dynamic requirements of telco carriers, cloud service providers and large enterprises, making it ready to tap into the opportunity of the rising industry requirements for high power density, low-latency and high-availability data centres.

Eco-friendly and resources efficient data centre design

MEGA Plus meets environmental requirements incorporated from the project design and certified with green building standards of LEED and BEAM Plus. The environmental-friendly and low-impact design of MEGA Plus not only helps improve the quality of the indoor environment but also minimises emissions to the external environment and promotes energy and resources efficiency. Highlights of some designs are:

- Make-up water tank can cater for a sufficient period of time of cooling water consumption with continuous chilled water supply to data halls

- High-performance air conditioning equipment and automatic lighting control are applied at data centres’ areas, plant rooms and offices to save electricity

- Installed green walls on the façades and development of green roof on the data centre to insulate heat and save energy

The ceremony was officiated by Mr. Nicholas W Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, HKSAR Government, Mr. Allen Fung, Vice Chairman and Non-Executive Director of SUNeVision, who is also Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Non-Property Portfolio Businesses of Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd., and Mr. Peter Yan, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of SUNeVision.

Mr. Yang congratulated SUNeVision on the successful completion of this state-of-the-art high-tier data centre built on the first greenfield site dedicated for data centre development. “The opening of MEGA Plus data centre further expands the data centre cluster in Tseung Kwan O, and shows the confidence of the industry in Hong Kong in becoming the data centre hub of the Asia Pacific region.”

Mr. Allen Fung spoke at the ceremony, “Cloud computing, mobility, big data and Internet of Things (IoT) are the key drivers for the growth of data centre facilities in the future. SUNeVision’s commitment in providing secure, world-class, carrier neutral data centre facilities and services not only helps in retaining existing customers but also in attracting new prospects. With MEGA Plus in operation, we are confident to gain further support from our old and new business partners.”

Mr. Peter Yan added, “The MEGA Campus is home to the largest ecosystem of data exchange in the region, serving hundreds of customers from all over the world. With city’s 10 PoPs of subsea cables and more than 150 carriers, MEGA Plus further extends the network-dense environment to develop an important and strategic ecosystem for public and private peering with over 10,000 cross-connects.”

“MEGA Plus and the four other data centres managed by SUNeVision are well positioned to provide the capacity, power density and connectivity to meet the requirements of today’s and the future IT infrastructure,” continued Mr. Yan.
